Spending time at San Juan Bosco Orphanage, Tecate, Mexico

August 3rd, 2015

(7/12/15 to 7/18/15)  All the reports are coming back that World Servant Leaders Vicki and Mark Kolsrud’s did a great job leading the latest trip at San Juan Bosco. They had families from all over the United States with the oldest over 75 and the youngest person on the team 8 years old. World Servants has had a long term relationship with the Director and his staff. Currently they have 40 plus boys and girls calling the orphanage their home.

Our focus on this trip was to help paint the girls dorm, paint the front gate that surrounds the orphanage and also pour a large slab of concrete that will help keep the dirt from getting tracked into the dorms when it rains. The team also focused on having sports camp with the kids each afternoon. On the day off the team visited different areas of Tecate and also hosted a Bar-B-Q for the staff and kids.  Special relationships were built and God blessed everyone as they served each other. We look forward to returning and spending more time with the kids.  It’s a blessing to be able to move in for a week and be part of what God is doing there. Thank you San Juan Bosco, we love spending time with you.

A New Water Project at San Juan Bosco a possibility (Tecate, Mexico)

April 11th, 2014

Yesterday I received a call from one of the churches that has joined us in serving at the San Juan Bosco Children’s Home in Tecate, Mexico. This church is looking at the possibility of helping with a new water system at the orphanage. It’s in the research stages right now, but what a blessing that would be for the “large family” as they call them selves at San Juan Bosco. In May I hope to visit the orphanage with two other leaders from the church to look at the possibilities. Please join us in prayer as we meet in May, that God would make it clear to all of us if this is His plan. I am so excited. We serve an amazing God.

San Juan Bosco Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico

February 28th, 2013

I would like to think that every orphanage is like Rancho San Juan Bosco. Miseal, the director, and his wife Yolanda are devout Christians, feel called to serve the children at San Juan Bosco and are committed to never turn a child away. While running the home is a challenge, Miseal doesn’t worry; he depends on the Lord to provide everything they need. As a doctor, Yolanda manages the needs of all the children and offers medical care to the community several hours a day.

World Servants has been taking teams to San Juan Bosco for over sixteen years. We help with needed repairs and programs with the boys. While the physical projects the teams have done help the long term plans the director has identified, it is the time the group spends with the boys that makes a big difference in their lives.

In July 2012, a World Servants team of 17 people went to serve at San Juan Bosco. A roof built over the new chicken coop, provided relief from the constant sun, and has resulted in increased egg production! The team repaired the game room ceiling, laid a cement slab to the side of one of the buildings, and widened the garden area by erecting a larger fence. The group gave the clinic a good cleaning and several of the participants painted a colorful mural in the waiting room. It was so much fun.

The team was active from dawn to dusk, they offered Kid’s Club for the children, we helped staff with the everyday needs of the orphanage; fixed meals, did the laundry and helped with cleaning chores. It was a wonderful week of coming alongside the staff and kids, building relationships and learning about each other.
